Welcome to my weekly comic book oriented article here at Flipside Gaming. This week see how Daredevil hid his secret identity, Secret Empire starts to pick up me steam and Kid Omega takes on The Phoenix.  So, without any further delay, here we go! Excelsior!

Daredevil #20

We finally get to see how Daredevil could get everyone to forget who he really was. Granted it was not Daredevil’s doing, and he never asked the Purple Children to do it, but it was cool to see him go around the city beating on criminals and asking who he was.  It was interesting to see Foggy remember when Matt told him he was Daredevil, so I think that could lead to some neat storylines down the line with certain villains remembering.

Invincible Iron Man #7

It is not that I don’t like Riri as Ironheart, but this book moves slowly. Maybe the book is just treading water until after Secret Empire or when Legacy/Generations kicks off. Having the book center around Riri, Pepper Potts, and Mary Jane Watson give it a dynamic that is not seen in other books. I hope we get to see more of the Riri-Pepper Potts team-up that we did a few issues ago because it could be come this series’ Stark-Rhodes team.

The Mighty Thor #19

This current run of Mighty Thor has been fantastic. Watching Jane Foster, stricken with cancer, come face to face with the Phoenix was incredible. Overpowering the Phoenix in her mind to the point where she could get her hammer and punch the Phoenix in the face was a great moment for the character. A surprising cameo by Odinson and Kid Omega bonding with the Phoenix all were highlights and I can’t wait to see what is next.

Secret Empire #2

Starting off the issue with Dagger being literally the only light in part of New York that was trapped in the Dark Dimension really gave you a sense of what the heroes are facing there. Lack of food and sewage are creating a desperate situation. On the outside, you have Rick Jones from beyond the grave giving everyone the cliff-notes version of what happened to Cap and Black Widow deciding it was best to just put him down. This series has been great so far.

Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider #2

As the first issue showed, Ben is not quite right in the head. Trying to get his own Mary Jane and Aunt May were very funny and in a way very sad. I don’t want to make the comparison, but this really looks like they finally mashed-up Deadpool and Spider-Man into one character. I know at some point Peter will come looking for Ben so they might just be waiting to build on that before anything substantial happens.

Infamous Iron Man #8

I am hoping this book also picks up with The Maker finally putting his scheme into motion. Dr. Doom has a long history of losing to Reed Richards, but that was with Doom as the villain. I could finally see Doom coming out on top and cementing his new way of thinking. I also anticipate The Thing playing a large part in this story and backing up Doom. That should be as amusing as it is entertaining.

Venom #150

This is the first book to go back to the old numbering that it had and it will lead the way for the rest of Generations. There are several Venom writers putting the talents on display and I am very exciting for this book. I think we will see a range of Venom, from the person that hates Spider-Man to the Lethal Protector and everything in between.

X-Men: Blue #4

So, with Gambit making an appearance in Gold, we now get a Wolverine to appear in Blue. Whether this is Old Man Logan or a time displaced younger Logan we don’t know yet. It will also be interesting to see how this Logan reacts to Magneto leading the team. If this Logan is from the past, he might not know that Magneto has turned good-ish and there could be some interesting conflicts. Let’s not forget that Magneto is also building a time portal so this will play a large role in the story as well.

Thanks for reading! Don't forget to stop in any Flipside Gaming in East Greenbush to pick up or reserve your copies of these titles today!
