Gameplay Mechanics
There are four new gameplay mechanics on the way for the Avatar: The Last Airbender MTG release, each one representing the elements Avatar is known for.
Airbending allows a player to exile a permanent. The owner may recast it later for {2} instead of paying its full mana cost.
Waterbending is an activated ability requiring a cost. For example, Katara, Water Tribe’s Hope allows you to pay X mana to give all your creatures base power and toughness X/X until the end of the turn, but you can tap artifacts or creatures to help pay some of that cost, similar to the Convoke mechanic.
Earthbending turns land into creatures. Toph, the First Metalbender, lets you earthbend 2, turning a land into a 0/0 creature with haste and adding two +1/+1 counters to it. When that land leaves the battlefield, it returns to the battlefield as a non-creature tapped land.
Firebending generates mana. When a creature with firebending X attacks, you get X red mana {R}, usable until the end of combat.
