Searching Standard: Team Rocket's Weezing

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard, where each and every week I look for new, innovative decks for you to play in Standard. This week, I'm looking at a deck that was recently featured on the YouTube channel of LittleDarkFury. It features Team Rocket's Weezing DRI 126 alongside a bunch of other Koffing and Weezing. Team Rocket's Weezing DRI 126 is the main attacker for this deck. By using its Explode Together Now attack, you'll deal 40 damage for each Pokémon in play that has either Koffing or Weezing in its name. If you have a full Bench of these Pokémon, you can deal 240 damage to your opponent's Active Pokémon for just 2 Energy. That's a great amount of damage for little investment.

Weezing MEW 110 has a terrific Ability that can make your opponent not want to attack you. The Let's Have a Blast Ability gives you a 50/50 chance of Knocking Out your opponent's Active Pokémon if Weezing MEW 110 gets Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack. Sometimes, all you need is the chance of Knocking Out your opponent's Pokémon to cause them to stop attacking.

To help add additional damage when you attack with Team Rocket's Weezing DRI 126 Explode Together Now attack, you can put Terapagos ex SCR 128 into play. This will then allow you to play Area Zero Underdepths PRE 94, increasing the size of your Bench from 5 Pokémon to 8. This deck also has a copy of Fezandipiti ex SFA 38, allowing you the use of its Flip the Script Ability in the event that you have a Pokémon that gets Knocked Out.

To deal even more damage to your opponent's Pokémon ex, you can attach a Maximum Belt PRE 117 to your Active Pokémon. There's also a copy of Bravery Charm PAL 173 that you can attach to provide an additional 50 HP to one of your Basic Pokémon. Arven SVI 166 is a great supporter that can help you find either of these Pokémon Tools as well as an Item.

This next batch of Trainer cards all help you find the Pokémon you need throughout the game. Buddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144 and Nest Ball SVI 181 help you find the Basic Pokémon from your deck, while Ultra Ball SVI 196 can be used to find any Pokémon you're in need of.

To help make the most from your attacks, you can utilize both Boss’s Orders PAL 172 and Counter Catcher PAR 160 to choose which of your opponent's Pokémon to attack. Choose something you're sure to Knock Out that will provide you multiple Prize cards for best results.

Card advantage in trading card games is crucial for achieving victory. This batch of cards helps with that. If your opponent has a full Bench, you can draw a lot of cards when you play Morty's Conviction TEF 155. Professor's Research JTG 155 always allows you to draw a new hand of 7 cards, but you have to discard your current hand when you play it. Depending on how many Prize cards you've already taken, Iono PAL 185 can be another way of drawing a lot of new cards. Her main purpose, though, is resetting your opponent's hand in order to slow down their momentum.

To help you reuse cards that have gone to your discard pile, this deck has a few different Trainer card helpers. Both Night Stretcher SFA 61 and Super Rod PAL 188 allow you to return Basic Energy or Pokémon cards from your discard pile, to either your hand or shuffled back into your deck respectively. Sacred Ash DRI 168 only reshuffles Pokémon from your discard pile back into your deck, but it lets you shuffle back 5, which is an amount that no other card allows you to do.

The final pair of Trainer cards are general all-purpose cards for this deck. Glass Trumpet PRE 110 can potentially help you accelerate the amount of Energy you have attached to your team. Switch SVI 194 offers you a bit of mobility without the need of discarding Energy to pay a Retreat Cost.

Wrapping Up

While there are other Pokémon that are capable of dealing more damage when they attack, most of those attacks require more than 2 Energy to use. Team Rocket's Weezing DRI 126 offers a lot of potential without requiring a lot of commitment.

What do you think of this deck? Do you have any suggestions for improvements? Let me know by leaving a comment below. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in the Pokemon TCG. I'll see you then!
