After a large focus on Magic Arena and then a nearly year long hiatus, Wizards of the Coast has announced a return to the traditional Pro Tour!

This upcoming 2022-2023 season will consist of three Pro Tour events, with a variety of qualifying paths. The first new season will start the first week of July later this year! While the specific dates of these events haven't been revealed yet, we do know the structure of the qualifying process. For most players, this process starts at the regional level with just announced Regional Championship Qualifiers. The qualifying structure is set up to look like this:

-

Regional Championship Qualifiers

Regional Championship Qualifier events will be held at the local level, with invitations to the Regional Championships awarded to the winner of the qualifying event. The qualifier will reward you with an invite to the Regional Championships in your region, each event being orchestrated by a specified regional organizers. For example, if your qualify in the US, your Regional Championship will be organized by Dreamhack.

These qualifier events will reward participants with an alternate art Promo Lava Spike, with top finishers receiving an additional alternate art Promo Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Those who receive invites to the Regional Championships will receive a foil copy of Nykthos!

Regional Championships

The first Regional Championships will take place late this year, with the first official Pro Tour returning early 2023. These events will also have Magic Online and Magic Arena qualification opportunities. All participants of these events will receive a Promo Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, with the top finishers receiving a foil version.

The top finishers of the Regional Championships will be awarded with invited to the Pro Tour, with the first place winner also receiving an invitation to the World Championships! These Regional Championships are meant to be larger scale events, so the reward for winning is meant to reflect that.

Pro Tours

Alongside Regional Championships, Wizards is also introducing a points system called Adjusted Match Points (AMP) which will allow players to earn more PT invites by placing well at previous Pro Tours. Although the most common path to the Pro Tour is through the Regional Championships, there are a few other ways to qualify for the big event. The full list of qualifying paths includes:

Finishing as a top finisher at a Regional Championship.

Finish with 10 or more wins at the most recent Pro Tour.

MTG Online Champions Showcases.

Magic the Gathering Hall of Fame members will receive one Regional Championship and one Pro Tour invite each season.

Players who have finished with 39 or more Adjusted Match Points from the previous three Pro Tours combined.

The Top 4 placing players from this year's 2022 World Championships XXVIII will receive invites to all three Pro Tours in the 2022-2023 season.

Dates for all three Pro Tours of this upcoming season will be announced later this year, with the events starting early 2023. Along with the announcement, Wizards has included a FAQ Page for anyone with further questions about the seasonal structure.

We're extremely excited to see a return to the Pro Tour format, both at a local level as well as the big stage! Let us know what you think of the new Pro Tour structure down below!
